Hi all, hope you had a great start to the year and now full swing into life - work and play.
Market season for 2017 kicked off for us over the weekend at Handmade in the Hunter Markets in Pokolbin (Hunter Valley NSW). We really enjoy this unique market which showcases the work of local Hunter Valley artisans, designers and makers. As regular stall holders there, we often participate in extra weekend markets held the during busy concert season when international performers head to Hope Estate (across the road from where the markets are held at Kevin's Sobel's Wines, Pokolbin), attracting big names (such as Bruce Springstein on Saturday night) and huge crowds (25,000 people in fact on the weekend from around Australia and the globe) to see their favourite performers. Alongside Handmade in the Hunter Markets, we will also be continuing on with our monthly attendance at Avoca Beachside Markets, Avoca Beach Central Coast, as well as Olive Tree Markets in Newcastle and Maitland Regional Art Gallery (MRAG) on a semi regular basis.
Something new for us and in sync with the arrival of our gorgeous little (Sydney born) granddaughter Ruby, I will be dipping my toe into the market scene in Sydney this year as well. As I will be in Randwick on a regular and ongoing basis, we'll be taking part in the Royal Randwick Shopping Centre monthly Artisans Market. The first happening in March. We hope to see some of our Sydney clients and customers - established and new there sometime soon. It is the only indoor market in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney, so is the perfect venue when the weather isn't too great outside, and where air conditioned comfort makes browsing and shopping a breeze.

As Christmas is just around the corner and 2016 quickly comes to a close, we are preparing for the busiest time of the year in market land.
I started doing markets a year or so ago, gaining experience and exposure to help my business grow. It's been a challenge at times working to deadlines, lots of early mornings and freezing cold, to battling high winds and heavy rain to sweltering summer heat. It's also been a time of unpredictability too, with quite a few markets cancelled or postponed at last minute due to extreme/poor weather conditions. In all of this though, it has been great. Markets are quite humbling I think, making you appreciate good days and respect for the discipline and commitment involved in making a market stall happen. From bump ins to bump outs, getting to know local customers, meeting new and transient clientele, befriending fellow stallholders and networking on all levels makes the artisan market process an enriching and unique experience.
In 2017 markets will continue as an avenue to promote our brand and sell our products, offering something different and unique while celebrating nature's beauty.

I am really excited to be participating in Artisans in the Gardens at the Royal Botanic Garden in Sydney this month. It is an event that I feel honoured to be exhibiting in, amongst the works of some amazing Australian artists and craftspeople. For the exhibition I am producing a small textiles homeware range consisting of botanical eco print table cloths and table runners, all handmade, naturally dyed and eco printed on 100% linen. These pieces will be alongside the beautiful ceramic pieces of Katherine Mahoney. I was very fortunate to join Katherine at Maitland Regional Art Gallery back in April this year for a Collaborative exhibition "Meet the Maker" - where my textiles and Katherine's ceramics harmonised nicely together. It will be a delight to join Katherine and other "established and emerging artists" at Artisans in the Gardens celebrating nature and the natural world through art and the artworks available for sale on the day.
The exhibition is run by Foundation and Friends of the Botanic Gardens. Entry is free and the Exhibition is open 10am-4pm 15=23 October. I will be there Wednesday 19 Octber 10am-1pm and hope to see you there.
